An efficient policy for the development of
tourism as an economic and social vector, such as the one practiced
under President Lula’s government, divulges the country’s
image not only through the options for leisure it provides but
also through the available business and investment opportunities.
This promotional strategy, which includes the creation of the
“Brazilian Brand” as well as the setting up of Brazilian
tourism companies abroad, has been giving excellent results.
The number of foreign tourists has been growing annually, and
the resulting exchange income has been increasing steadily,
as well as Brazilian participation in international fairs and
events.
The fairs held in Brazil are an important tool for the carrying
out of this strategy. They are an efficient means of trade promotion
for exhibitors and visitors; through them, small and medium
size companies can also access the international market.
Fairs also provide jobs and income opportunities. According
to “São Paulo Sindieventos”, syndicate which
includes various workers of the sector, they generate annually
160 thousand jobs all over the country. Furthermore, they attract
big spender tourists, thus benefiting the regional economy.
We, therefore, welcome UBRAFE’s annual calendar, which
contributes not only to develop trade fairs, but also Brazilian
tourism within the national economy.
